Memory lane…
Before even graduating high school, I was trying to find ways to express my creative voice. Listening to well intentioned, but heavily biased, advice I focused that exploration on illustration. That evolved into a design and illustration focus as my career aged. Pursueing those two disciplines stayed consistant until 2004 when I made the switch to video and film. I don’t consider that almost decade of effort a loss, so much of my creative learnings during that time heavily influences and, I believe, strengthens my current skill set. I feel I am a better post professional and aspiring photographer because of the time. But, it is time I wish I could go back (for many reasons) and take my own advice of what I wanted to do and follow that.
Of course, we can’t go back in time and all of that experience has made me, brought me, to who I am now. I cringe at showing any early examples of work, but I thought I’d share some work from later in my career. Someone may advise me to never share old work that I’ve moved past; I wouldn’t agree. Every illustration, design, edit, photo that may not represent where we are in our creative journey has been a building block in that journey. We are as much our old work as we are our current work. I think it’s instructive to see a Creative’s old work.
With that said, allow me to share a small gallery of older illustrations, in no particular order. I’ll probably share more another day.
