Count down…
The count down begins…
I sit here, three months out from my last day at Houston Methodist and about four months from packing my car, making my way to my new home in Seattle. I also sit here having finally cobbled my website back to something presentable enough to share with prospective employers and potential clients. After changing my personal brand to Seity Creative from my long ran ingramworks digital I had to, essentially, break apart the website and build it back up. For a time I debated rather staying with Squarespace or jumping back into web design and rebuilding it entirely on my own. Obviously, I went with the former option, being realistic about how much time I actually have to really get refreshed with web design along with my need to get a professional looking site up so I could start the job hunt properly. It’s still not entirely complete. I need to flesh out the “about” page and I need to add a photography section, considering I’m hoping to pursue photography opportunities, should the chance arise.
What’s the meaning?
Seity, as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary is: a quality peculiar to oneself : SELFHOOD, INDIVIDUALITY. I don’t use it to strictly define myself, but more as a reference to how unique and individualize creativity can be to each person. When I was younger I called it my voice and it’s something I feel I have both let atrophy and be silenced. Let’s not see it as a pompous, pretentious attempt at making my video work more grandiose than it deserves. I’m using as a waymarker, to remind myself of the direction I would like to go in my creative path rather than allowing others to map that for me, as I have my entire life. A string tied around my finger. A sticky note on my screen.
Is there a plan?
Not being above flying by the seat of my pants, I do actually have a plan for the next few months. First, which I have already initiated, is to plan my financials knowing that it may be a good while before I either land a full-time position or build up a healthy freelance base. As long as I stay disciplined, I will be stable for quite sometime, hopefully giving me the freedom to make considered choices. Second, closely related to the first, is to start sending out the resume, applying for posted positions and start introducing myself to Seattles local production community. Getting this site to a good place is crucial in that process. And third, plan my actual move and secure an apartment. This has been a process for most of the year, researching apartments, gathering options and debating locations. I have gathered several top picks along with “good enough” options. Tackling that list to start finding availability will start very soon, like in the next week. And, the actual move plans have been finalized. Just need to start reserving all the services needed.
Time will fly, with milestones coming at me fast. Trying to keep myself positive, despite everything happening around me, holding on to the excitement of finally living where I’ve dreamt of being for most of my life.
